Job summary

Biffa Ltd is seeking an engineer to undertake environmental monitoring, data interpretation and reporting in line with site permits. The role covers gas field monitoring, balancing and maintenance, and overseeing the landfill gas compound to maximise power generation.

You will work closely with operational teams, supervise contractors, and provide after-hours support when required. The role includes a Monday–Friday pattern with on-call duties, remote/hybrid working options, and a company vehicle

Responsibilities

• Environmental monitoring and data reporting per site permit and Biffa instructions.
• Gas field monitoring, balancing and maintenance.
• Manage landfill gas compound to maximise power generation.
• Follow Health and Safety policies, guidance notes and training.
• Collaborate with landfill operational colleagues and supervise contractors.
• Out-of-hours emergency support for gas generation issues.

Job description

• Undertake environmental monitoring, data interpretation and reporting in accordance with the site permit and Biffa instructions
• Undertake gas field monitoring, balancing and maintenance
• Manage the landfill gas compound to ensure that power generation is maximised
• Undertake all duties in accordance with Health and Safety policies, guidance notes and training
• Work closely with and collaborate with landfill operational colleagues
• Supervise and manage contractors that work on specific areas relating to this role
• Collect, understand, collate and prepare data (for generator and environmental performance) as required to monitor the overall business performance, identify areas for improvement and implement these in collaboration with Management.
• Out of hours emergency assistance for gas generation issues
• Carry out such reasonable tasks as might be required by the Company from time to time.
  To undertake environmental monitoring of various landfill sites, data interpretation and reporting in accordance with the site permit as well as gas field balancing, maintenance and gas compound management.
• Monday to Friday working pattern, with on call rota of 1 day in 10
• £30 on call allowance, plus time and a half overtime if called out
• Covering the Midlands region
• 42 hours per week as standard, with regular overtime available
• Autonomy to manage your own diary and workload with home working
• Company 4x4 pick up provided, with personal use available, Able to travel, may be asked to stay away from home on rare occasions.
• Driving licence - Driving is a large part of the role, you will sometimes be required to drive to more than one site in a day.
• Happy to lone work - Some of our closed sites are unattended.
