Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Environmental Protection, seeks an Environmental Engineering Specialist to safeguard water quality across the Commonwealth. You will apply technical knowledge to wastewater, permitting, and enforcement challenges, supporting communities with strong regulatory expertise.

Qualifications

• Two years of professional environmental engineering experience with an EIT or similar credential.
• One year of environmental engineering experience with a PE license.
• Completion of Environmental Engineering Trainee training program.
• One year of experience with a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or related field.
• Graduate study may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate industrial wastewater discharge applications and set discharge limits per water quality standards.
• Assess NPDES permit submissions to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Conduct on-site facility inspections to verify permit adherence.
• Analyze wastewater treatment designs and recommend actions for permits.
• Meet with stakeholders to address questions related to permitting activities.
• Enter and maintain required information in electronic databases.
