By joining the Division of Water/Surface Water Permits Branch/Municipal Section as an Environmental Engineer Technologist II in Franklin County, you will have the opportunity to oversee the Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) program which will include the review and analysis of toxicity laboratory testing results. This position will provide technical assistance and technical oversight for permittee compliance with Kentucky Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (KPDES) permit requirements, including state and federal regulatory requirements.

Holders of the Environmental Engineer Technologist II position will complete tasks such as:

  • Review and analyze toxicity test reports for completeness and compliance with program requirements
  • Evaluate requests from the regulated community pertaining to the WET program and serve as a resource to the regulated community and the agency regarding questions and concerns
  • Maintain log of submittals and track compliance
  • Identify permit violations related to the WET program, refer violations to the Division of Enforcement, and monitor compliance
  • Review, analyze, and prepare KPDES permits for Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW) facilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and the Microsoft suite of software.
  • Strong organizational skills and capable of prioritizing tasks and following through on responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering approved by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of environmental engineering related experience.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in engineering approved by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors will substitute for one year of the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office setting. Frequent travel throughout the state may be required.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
