Job summary

CDM Smith in Wilmington, NC is seeking a Project Technical Leader to drive technical delivery for water and wastewater projects. You will develop the project’s technical vision, coordinate design content, and work closely with the Project Manager to meet client requirements.

You will review designs for regulatory compliance, mentor junior staff, contribute to white papers, and assist in proposals for RFPs. Travel up to 10% may be required; a PE license and a civil/environmental/chemical

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 10 years of related experience; travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and drives the technical vision of the project, reporting to the PM.
  • Coordinates technical content of design and non-design projects to mitigate rework.
  • Creates engineering designs for water and wastewater facilities, pipes, and pump stations.
  • Reviews draft designs/reports for regulatory compliance and signs off on designs.
  • Ensures firm policies are followed on all designs.
  • Performs site reviews to align designs with location specs.
  • Develops and publishes technical documentation and white papers.
  • Collaborates with sales staff to create proposals in response to RFPs.
  • Interacts with clients to review design needs and attends conferences.
  • Provides technical guidance and training to junior staff; mentors them.

Job Description
  • The Project Technical Leader (PTL) role focuses on key areas of technical delivery within the Global Delivery Excellence Framework (GDEF) and works closely with the Project Manager.
  • Develops and drives the technical vision of the project, reporting directly to the PM.
  • Coordinates the technical content of design and non-design projects, emphasizing preemptive, preventive, and proactive approaches to mitigate circle backs.
  • Creates engineering designs for water and wastewater treatment facilities, water and sewer systems, pipelines, pump stations, etc., meeting client project requirements.
  • Reviews draft designs and reports for compliance with federal, state and local regulations, and signs off on completed designs.
  • Ensures firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
  • Performs site reviews and studies as required to align designs with location specifications.
  • Updates design requirements as necessary.
  • Develops and publishes white papers and technical design documentation; submits technical papers to journals.
  • Collaborates with sales staff to create proposals in response to RFPs and reviews draft proposals for adherence to regulations and best practices.
  • Interacts with existing and prospective clients to review their design needs.
  • Attends conferences and symposia to improve visibility of the firm’s products and services.
  • Provides technical guidance and training to junior staff; mentors them for growth and may supervise their work.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • 10 years of related experience.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required; frequency of travel contingent on duties.
  • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Skills & Abilities
  • Expert knowledge of computer-assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
  • Expert knowledge of engineering principles of design.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Expert knowledge of federal, state and local regulations.

10% or less.

Salary Range

USD $105,227 – $184,142.
