The Georgia Environmental Protection Division engages in continuous recruitment for Environmental Engineers.

The Environmental Protection Division (EPD) protects and restores Georgia’s environment. We take the lead in ensuring clean air, land and water. EPD’s Air, Land and Watershed Protection Branches, in concert with its seven District Offices, serve the public by implementing state laws, rules, and policies to protect human health and the environment; apply and enforce environmental laws and standards in a consistent, fair, and timely manner; and are proactive, results-oriented, and help develop new approaches to meet Georgia’s environmental challenges.

Land Protection Branch (Atlanta Metro)

TheLand Protection Branch (LPB) manages the permitting, inspection, compliance, investigation, remediation, and corrective action activities for solid waste facilities, recycling facilities, scrap tires, underground storage tanks, surface mines, and hazardous waste facilities. The Branch oversees state and federal regulatory frameworks including RCRA, CERCLA, HSRA and the Solid Waste and Hazardous Waste Trust Funds. The Land Protection Branch also oversees the redevelopment and return to productive use of property through programs like Brownfields and Georgia’s Voluntary Remediation Program.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under supervision, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities; assist with collection of data; inspect industrial and municipal facilities and programs in order to evaluate operational effectiveness and ensure compliance with regulations; monitor progress of environmental improvement programs; obtain, update, and maintain plans, permits and standard operating procedures; prepare, review, and update environmental investigation and recommendation reports; provide technical-level support for environmental remediation and litigation projects; review and analyze engineering plans to make recommendations to reduce and eliminate environmental impact; perform simple engineering calculations to model or predict flow of contamination; and perform standard engineering studies to ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations.Field work and occasional overnight travel may be required.

Based on education and experience, the selectee will be hired into one of thejob codes below. Salary is commensurate with education and experiencein compliance with State Personnel Board Rules.

Minimum Qualifications

ETP020 – Environmental Engineer 1

Entry Salary $58,240.00

Bachelor's degree in agricultural, chemical, civil, environmental, civil-sanitary or mechanical engineeringfrom an accredited college or university.

ETP021 – Environmental Engineer 2

Entry Salary $64,064.00

Bachelor's degree in agricultural, chemical, civil, environmental, civil-sanitary or mechanical engineeringfrom an accredited college or university AND One year of experience in professional environmental protection or sanitary engineering work.

ETP022 – Environmental Engineer 3

Entry Salary $70,470.40

Bachelor's degree in agricultural, chemical, civil, environmental, civil-sanitary or mechanical engineeringfrom an accredited college or university AND Twoyears of experience in professional environmental or sanitary engineering workOR One year of experience at a level equivalent to an EnvironmentalEngineer 2 (ETP021) or position equivalent.
