A leading company in food and agriculture is seeking an Environmental Specialist to oversee environmental cleanup and remedial actions at fertilizer distribution facilities. The J.R. Simplot Company is a diverse, privately held global food and agriculture company headquartered in Boise, Idaho. We are a true farm-to-table company with an integrated portfolio including food processing and food brands, phosphate mining, fertilizer manufacturing, farming, ranching and cattle production, and other enterprises related to agriculture.
This position is a member of the Corporate Environmental and Regulatory Affairs Department and will focus on environmental cleanup and remedial actions at retail fertilizer & pesticide distribution facilities as well as environmental due diligence associated with real property acquisitions and divestments. This position may reside at the Boise, ID Headquarters or Pocatello Simplot Frontier Building. Travel to various facilities is required, estimated at 30% of the time throughout the year.
Responsible for oversight of multiple, concurrent, environmental remedial actions at retail fertilizer and pesticide distribution facilities. Common contaminants of potential concern include nitrate, selenium, phosphorus, and various pesticides.
Expected to be experienced with the requirements and process required by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). Experience with state specific remedial action requirements and state specific environmental regulations with a strong background in chemistry is also desirable.
Conduct due diligence of existing documentation for potential purchase or divestment of real property.This will also require the oversight of Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments primarily conducted by outside contractors.This due diligence may result in remedial actions which will be managed by this position.Detailed evaluation and communication of potential environmental risks will be coordinated with various business interests and upper management within the Company.
Collaborate with other Environmental and Regulatory Affairs staff and participate in the environmental assessment program as requested and provide technical assistance to facilities on environmental matters as directed.
B.Sc. in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemistry or Environmental Science
4+ years of industry experience minimum is required
Demonstrated project management of remedial actions with state and/or federal agencies is required. Must be able to develop budgets, track expenditures, communicate project status to stakeholders, and provide appropriate documentation of activities
Must be able to work professionally with Company personnel at all levels, regulatory agencies, special interest groups, and members of the public
Must be able to accurately define problems, collect data, interpret analytical results, draw valid conclusions, summarize findings, and make recommendations to Company management
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
