Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is professional work assisting the environmental manager in one of the five statewide multi-county geographic areas. The incumbent uses independent judgment and performs the more difficult or complicated inspections, assists the manager with inspection priorities and conducts training. Duties include:
Conduct assigned on-site inspections of x-ray facilities and users of radioactive materials. Assignments will include the more difficult or complicated type of x-ray facilities and/or radioactive material licensees where demonstrated competence will be required.
Performs radiation emergency response duties, assessing hazards and taking appropriate actions to minimize radiation exposure to workers, the public, and the environment.
Performs radiation related investigations as assigned.
Serves as mentor for new staff. Maintains and enhances professional and technical skills through training and professional organizations.
Serves as radiation technical advisor when answering radiation workers and public concerns. Serves on committees when requested to further radiation research issues.
Assist the environmental manager by providing technical, scientific and professional guidance. Investigate special areas and report unusual findings to the environmental manager. Serve on in-house workgroups as assigned. Other related duties.
Federal certification in mammography inspections (MQSA - Mammography Quality Standards Act) will be required if deemed necessary by the Field Operations Environmental Administrator.
