Job summary

DTE Energy is seeking an Environmental Engineer to support day-to-day and long-term environmental compliance at the EES Coke Operations in River Rouge, MI. The role oversees permit tracking, regulatory reporting, data management, and incident investigations, coordinating with operations, maintenance, engineering, and external agencies to implement practical compliance solutions.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical field, 4+ years of relevant experience, and strong writing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, chemistry, or a related technical field.
  • Four years of relevant experience in environmental compliance, permit implementation, regulatory reporting, or permit development.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental compliance for heavy industrial facilities.
  • Ability to interpret permits, regulations, and technical requirements into practical plant practices.
  • Strong problem-solving, data analysis, and collaboration with operations and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage environmental compliance programs including air, water, waste, chemical handling and tracking.
  • Interpret and apply regulations, permit conditions, and facility procedures to operations.
  • Conduct field inspections, audits, and compliance assessments of coke operations and wastewater treatment.
  • Prepare regulatory reports, permit applications, deviations, and technical evaluations.
  • Collect, analyze, and report compliance data, identify trends and risks, and recommend solutions.
  • Maintain databases, trackers, and calendars to ensure timely obligations.
  • Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and agencies to support issue resolution.
  • Develop and update environmental procedures, training materials, and management systems.
