Job summary

Ahlstrom Rhinelander, Wisconsin plant seeks an Environmental Co-op for the 2027 Spring semester and summer (January - August). This role offers hands-on experience in environmental compliance, data collection, field investigations, and WWTP operations within a manufacturing setting.

Pay rate is $27.00 per hour, with student housing or a housing stipend available. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States, be enrolled in Environmental Engineering, Management, Science, Civil/E

Qualifications

  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • Enrolled in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Living in or willing to relocate to the Rhinelander, Wisconsin area for January–August 2027.
  • Ability to work full-time for the duration of the position.
  • Strong desire to work within a fast-paced, manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong technical aptitude and proven problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Must follow Ahlstrom’s manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures and policies to meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements for each grade of paper.
  • Support environmental inspections, audits, site assessments and day-to-day operations.
  • Assist with monitoring programs related to air, water, wastewater, stormwater, waste, hazardous materials, and other environmental areas.
  • Assist with preparation and maintenance of environmental permits, reports, plans, and compliance documentation.
  • Support energy, sustainability and environmental improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with environmental sampling, fieldwork, data collection and project planning as needed.
  • Assist WWTP plant operators and maintenance with day-to-day wastewater treatment activities.
  • Perform or assist with basic water quality testing and laboratory analyses.
  • Updating standard operating procedures as needed
  • Continually looking for opportunities to improve. Our Co-ops bring a fresh perspective and new ideas.

We are seeking an Environmental Co-op at our Rhinelander, Wisconsin plant for the 2027 Spring semester and summer (January - August). This position provides an opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in environmental compliance, data collection and analysis, field investigations, engineering design, process improvement, technical reporting, wwtp operations and day-to-day operational assistance.
