Job description

Orange, California Giles Engineering Associates, Inc. is seeking a Staff Scientist with a background in geology, hydrogeology, environmental science, geosciences, or environmental engineering for an immediate opportunity in our Orange, California office. This position will be responsible for coordinating and performing field activities for Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) and preparing technical reports. The Staff Scientist will work directly under Project Managers to complete projects on time and within budget.

Responsibilities:
  • Collect environmental samples, including soil, groundwater, and soil gas, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures
  • Coordinate field activities for Phase I and Phase II ESAs, including attaining site access and managing subcontractors
  • Conduct Phase I ESA and Phase II site visits
  • Prepare technical reports of varying complexity
  • Complete required regulatory paperwork and documentation
  • Maintain field equipment and supply inventory
  • Frequent travel throughout California and Western states
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, environmental science, geosciences, environmental engineering, or related field (required)
  • 1-3 years related experience
  • Experience logging soils and collecting environmental samples
  • Experience writing technical reports
  • Current HAZWOPER Certification and OSHA 40-Hour Health and Safety Waste Site Worker Training and Annual Refresher (preferred) or ability to obtain
  • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel
  • Excellent problem solving, communication, and time management skills
  • Willingness to learn and work independently and as a member of a team
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (required)
