Job summary

State of Oregon, Department of Justice, is seeking a seasoned Criminal Investigator to join the Environmental Crimes and Cultural Resources Enforcement Unit in Salem or Portland. The role involves leading complex investigations, coordinating with federal, state, and local partners, and applying advanced evidence-handling practices.

The ideal candidate has four years of recent investigative experience, relevant certifications, and the ability to travel.

Qualifications

• Four years of recent (within the last ten years) full-time criminal investigative experience.
• College-level coursework in a related field or criminal investigation training substituted for up to two years of experience.
• Must possess an active Oregon DPSST Advanced Police certification (or higher) or be able to obtain one within a year of hire.
• Maintain an appropriate Oregon driver license and qualification in firearm use, First Aid and CPR.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, direct and conduct complete investigations within the Department of Justice jurisdiction.
• Prepare search warrants and affidavits; organize crime scene processing.
• Conduct in-depth interviews of victims, witnesses, and suspects; serve warrants and subpoenas; make arrests.
• Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies; liaise with prosecutors and district attorneys.
• Prepare detailed reports and admissible exhibits; maintain evidence custody and chain of custody.
• Travel as required and operate surveillance equipment; work with multiple units as assigned.
