Job summary

Herndon Solutions Group is seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist I to support NASA Glenn Research Center's ATF in Ohio. The role focuses on on‑site coordination of hazardous waste, POL/tank, spill preparedness, stormwater, and wastewater programs, with inspections, reporting, and cross‑media compliance efforts.

The position requires a minimum high school diploma with 0–2 years of experience, plus training in HAZWOPER, RCRA waste, DOT hazmat, and NASA safety programs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Minimum 0-2 years of experience collecting information and/or following procedures to collect samples.
• RCRA Hazardous Waste Management training and required refreshers.
• DOT Hazardous Materials Ground Shipper training and required refreshers.
• OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER training and required refreshers.
• Applicable NASA SATERN and site‑specific environmental, safety, spill response, stormwater, POL, and waste‑management training based on assigned duties.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain required NASA facility access.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary on‑site compliance coordinator for GRC‑ATF across waste, POL/tank, spill, stormwater, and wastewater programs.
• Evaluate facility operations, projects, material and waste storage, tanks, outfalls, wastewater discharges, and construction activities for multi‑media requirements.
• Conduct and document hazardous waste accumulation area, universal waste, used oil, POL/tank, stormwater, wastewater, and other inspections; identify deficiencies and recommend actions.
• Support SPCC, POL, and tank program requirements, including inspections and corrective‑action tracking.
• Maintain ATF spill readiness and provide initial technical coordination for spill assessment and post‑event follow‑ups.
• Coordinate with laboratories and leads on sampling plans, chain of custody, and data quality.
