Job summary

Herndon Solutions Group at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, OH, seeks a Hazardous Waste Specialist I to support waste management and spill-readiness programs. This on-site role focuses on regulated and POL waste, documentation, and compliance across Lewis Field and GRC-ATF.

The position requires evaluating regulatory obligations, coordinating waste activities, reviewing records, and providing technical recommendations to mitigate risk and ensure operational readiness.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Experience in hazardous waste management and regulatory documentation.
• HAZWOPER 40-hour training and refreshers.
• DOT HazMat Ground Shipper training and refreshers.
• NASA SATERN and site-specific environmental training.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain NASA facility access.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate waste characterization information and regulatory requirements to identify improvements.
• Administer waste-management activities including determinations, accumulation-area compliance, and cradle-to-grave tracking.
• Plan and coordinate waste pickups, movement, packaging, and offsite disposal per procedures.
• Review manifests, shipping papers, and LDR forms; draft reports for Government review.
• Conduct and document inspections of various waste areas and track deficiencies to closure.
• Support spill-readiness functions and provide guidance during spill responses.
• Develop or revise work instructions and training content for waste and spill functions.
• Coordinate with site leads to ensure consistent coverage across Lewis Field and GRC-ATF.
