Oversees and supports legal and regulatory environmental compliance by administering related programs, projects, and functions, as well as providing technical and training support to field operations. Serves as a knowledge resource to other environmental compliance specialists and field operations personnel. Coordinates and provides oversight to contracted environmental consultants and vendors.
Essential Functions
- Implements and monitors environmental compliance programs for an established territory, working closely with other compliance specialists to support regional compliance efforts. Programs may include, but are not limited to, stormwater, wastewater, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, air quality, above and/or below ground storage tanks, environmental due diligence, and other related programs.
- Travels routinely to conduct station audits within an established territory and collaborates with station management to create action plans to resolve identified issues.
- Provides on-site assistance on short notice for tasks such as regulatory audits, inspections, violation responses, spill responses, training, community complaints, and general compliance support.
- Coordinates and communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors and government agencies at local, state, and federal levels.
- Prepares and submits environmental permit applications to relevant authorities.
- Works with vendors and consultants for compliance tasks, including scope of work, project specifications, bids, contract management, and monitoring expenditures.
- Guides station management on the operation and maintenance of environmental equipment, systems, and controls.
- Acts as a hazardous materials resource, implementing internal policies and procedures.
- Evaluates environmental assessments related to property acquisitions, reporting findings and recommendations to management.
- Supports station management with internal auditing processes.
- Provides training, oversight, and guidance to junior staff, such as Environmental Compliance Specialist I.
Minimum Education
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, policy, compliance, or a related field.
Minimum Experience
- At least three (3) years of experience in environmental compliance, with experience in at least one of the following programs: stormwater, wastewater, hazardous materials, hazardous waste, air quality, storage tanks, or environmental due diligence.
