Job summary

City of Phoenix is seeking an Environmental Quality Specialist to support the Pretreatment team within the Environmental & Safety Division. The role focuses on applying environmental science principles to water quality, permit determinations, and regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate will have familiarity with major federal and state environmental regulations, strong communication skills, and proficiency in common software tools.

Qualifications

  • Two years of professional level experience in ground or surface water, air, or soils management.
  • Bachelor's degree in hydrology, environmental engineering, geology, environmental science, hydrogeology, biology, chemistry, hazardous materials management, or a related field.
  • All finalists subject to criminal background check; valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Provides oversight of complex permit determination and scouting inspections.
  • Plans review, permit writing and review.
  • Analysis of water quality regulations and permit applications.
  • Support for billing of industries, data entry, and review of trends in water quality investigations and pollution control.
  • Supervisory oversight of Senior Water Quality Inspectors and staff training on safety and regulatory compliance.
