RahrBSG is looking for a Environmental Compliance Manager in Shakopee, Minnesota. The Environmental Compliance Manager leads environmental compliance and sustainability programs across Rahr Corporation and its subsidiaries, ensuring adherence to federal, state, provincial, and local environmental regulations. As the organization's environmental subject matter expert, this role provides strategic oversight for permitting, compliance assurance, environmental risk management, and environmental management systems, with a strong focus on air quality, water, wastewater, stormwater, waste, and chemical management programs. Partnering closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, and business leaders, the Environmental Compliance Manager supports operational excellence, protects the company's ability to operate, and advances long-term business growth through proactive environmental stewardship and risk reduction.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Environmental Compliance Leadership
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of corporate environmental compliance programs.
  • Monitor and interpret environmental regulations and communicate compliance obligations to business leaders.
  • Ensure facilities maintain compliance with all applicable environmental permits, licenses, registrations, plans, and approvals.
  • Provide strategic guidance and technical expertise to site leadership regarding environmental risks, regulatory requirements, permitting obligations, and compliance strategies.
  • Develop environmental standards, procedures, and best practices applicable across all operating companies.
  • Manage 3 rd Party Consultants and Attorneys
  • Provide options for compliance paths to management
  • Review permits, amendments and cap-ex additions for compliance and defensibility
  • Remain current on environmental regulatory initiatives, enforcement trends, emphasis programs, and emerging issues to proactively assess impacts on business operations and compliance obligations
Permitting and Regulatory Management
  • Lead environmental permitting strategies for new capital projects, facility expansions, and operational changes.
  • Oversee environmental permit applications, modifications, renewals, registrations, and compliance certifications.
  • Serve as corporate lead for air permitting, wastewater permitting, stormwater permitting, and waste-related regulatory obligations.
  • Interface directly with regulatory agencies, consultants, attorneys, and external stakeholders.
  • Support agency inspections, audits, information requests, and enforcement actions as required.
  • Coordinate environmental compliance reporting and regulatory submissions.
  • Develop an internal audit program for compliance related tasks
Air Quality and Emissions Management
  • Provide technical oversight for emissions inventories, source testing, monitoring programs, and emissions calculations.
  • Evaluate operational and capital projects for permitting implications and environmental compliance impacts.
  • Coordinate with engineering and operations teams to identify permitting requirements associated with process modifications.
  • Maintain documentation supporting compliance with permit requirements and regulatory obligations.
  • Provide technical leadership for air permitting and regulatory applicability determinations, including BACT, NSR, PSD, and related permitting evaluations, to support business growth while maintaining environmental compliance.
  • Develop and maintain corporate environmental management systems (EMS).
  • Establish environmental metrics, KPIs, and performance indicators.
  • Support ISO 14001 implementation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop compliance calendars and audit protocols.
  • Maintain environmental records management systems and compliance tracking tools
Sustainability and Stewardship
  • Support corporate sustainability initiatives and environmental performance improvement projects.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce emissions, waste generation, water usage, and overall environmental impact.
  • Assist with environmental data collection and reporting initiatives.
  • Partner with business leaders to support sustainability objectives and strategic environmental goals.
  • Act as point of contact for customer’s sustainability related requests
Training and Leadership
  • Develop and deliver environmental compliance training programs.
  • Participate in capital project reviews and Management of Change (MOC) processes.
  • Build a culture of environmental ownership and accountability throughout the organization.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the company and operational needs.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & WORK REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science , Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Management, or a related field required; master’s degree preferred.
  • 6+ years of progressive environmental compliance experience in manufacturing, food processing, agricultural processing, energy production, chemical processing, or other industrial environments.
  • Multi-site environmental management experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing environmental permitting and regulatory compliance programs.
  • Experience working directly with environmental regulatory agencies and environmental consultants.
  • Preferred Certifications
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
  • Certified Environmental Professional (CEP)
  • Professional Engineer (PE)
  • ISO 1401 Auditor Training
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES :
  • Advanced knowledge of federal, state, provincial, and local environmental regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulatory compliance programs, including the Clean Air Act (CAA), wastewater treatment and discharge requirements, industrial stormwater permitting, Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) regulations, Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), chemical management, and spill prevention and response programs.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple environmental compliance initiatives, regulatory deadlines, documentation requirements, and cross-functional priorities while maintaining accuracy, accountability, and timely execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex environmental projects and compliance initiatives.
  • Ability to interpret technical regulations and communicate requirements to non-technical audiences.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with environmental reporting systems, SharePoint, Microsoft Office Suite, and compliance management platforms.
