Job summary

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES is seeking an Environmental Specialist II for the Division of Agricultural Environmental Services. The position offers an open competitive opportunity and negotiable headquarters within Hillsborough, Pasco, or Pinellas County.

Responsibilities include inspections, sample collection, investigations, and reporting to enforce Chapters 388, 482, 487, 576, 578, 580 and related FAC rules.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 1 year of environmental protection, regulation, or health experience; or 6 months as Environmental Specialist I or higher with the State of Florida; or a bachelor’s degree.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Note on foreign degrees: credential evaluation may be required.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and conduct inspections and collect samples to ensure compliance with Chapters 388, 482, 487, 576, 578 and 580, F.S., and rules 5E-1...5E-14, F.A.C.
• Conduct investigations in response to reports, complaints, violations or suspicious matters to determine compliance.
• Prepare and submit written and electronic reports in a timely manner.
• Issue corrective notices as necessary.
• Maintain knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations and read pesticide labels.
