Job summary

State of Indiana, Division of Water, is seeking a field-focused inspector in Indianapolis, with a mix of office, field, and remote work. You will inspect compliance with environmental laws, review permits, and coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies to enforce standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field.
• Be willing to travel with reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to inspect and interpret regulations and plans.
• Strong written and oral communication; proficient with databases.

Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections and document findings; prepare inspection reports.
• Ensure compliance with contract documents and environmental standards.
• Review permits and permit revisions; communicate findings to stakeholders.
• Gather evidence for investigations and initiate violation files.
• Maintain and update enforcement databases; conduct field sampling and data analysis.
• Assist in project design, management, and inter-agency coordination.
• Provide technical assistance, public outreach, and explain permitting requirements.
• Testify as an expert witness at hearings; respond to inquiries from agencies and public.
• Respond to emergencies ( spills, fires, blowouts) and coordinate actions with others.
