Job summary

The State of Indiana is seeking a field staff inspector with the Indiana Department of Health to inspect mobile home communities, RV campgrounds, youth camps, and agricultural labor camps. You will support local health departments, write technical reports, and provide expert testimony when needed.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or Environmental Bioscience or a related field is required.

Qualifications

  • Analytical skills using scientific methods and data analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of pollution and radiation source facilities.
  • Provide consultation to manufacturers and local health organizations.
  • Prepare technical reports and make recommendations for action.
  • Provide expert testimony for administrative hearings and court actions.
  • Investigate hazardous events affecting health or environment.
  • Interprete laws and regulations governing environmental sanitation conditions.
  • Develop plans to update state laws and promote programs.
  • Cooperate with agencies and public in enforcement activities.
  • Collect samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Travel to client sites and write reports from those locations.
