Job summary

The City of Savannah is seeking an Environmental Technician to support the Stormwater Management Department in environmental compliance activities. The role involves field sampling, site inspections, GIS mapping, and drafting duties to maintain MS4 compliance.

You will evaluate laboratory results, assist with IDDE/I&I efforts, and help prepare the annual NPDES MS4 report. A strong background in water sampling, computers, and communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Engineering Technology or related field plus two years of work experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Knowledge of water sampling principles and established protocols.
• Knowledge of computers and modern office equipment.
• Skill in prioritizing and organizing work; strong oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Perform wet and dry weather sampling; forward samples to laboratory.
• Evaluate lab tests and upload results to database.
• Inspect industrial sites and businesses for environmental compliance.
• Respond to citizen complaints regarding illicit discharge to stormwater system.
• Prepare MS4 Annual Report and participate in related inspections and mapping tasks.
• Operate computers for drafting and GIS mapping; prepare maps and charts.
• Respond to emergencies during and after work hours.
• Assist in IDDE and I/I efforts with sampling and source tracing.
