Job summary

APEL Extrusions, Inc. in Phoenix, AZ is seeking an Environmental Compliance Engineer to oversee the daily compliance program and support EHS activities. The role ensures permits are maintained and environmental data is accurately recorded for painting and anodizing operations.

The Environmental Engineer will coordinate audits, training, and regulatory reporting, reporting directly to the EHS and Security Manager. This position supports safety and efficiency initiatives across the facility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related technical field or 5+ years environmental compliance in manufacturing.
• Experience managing environmental permits, compliance reporting, and inspections.
• Experience with Air Permitting and Air Quality Compliance.
• Experience with Wastewater Pretreatment (SWPPP) and Hazardous Waste (RCRA).
• Ability to interpret regulations and apply requirements in manufacturing.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and environmental recordkeeping systems.

Job Summary

The Environmental Engineer will oversee the daily execution of the environmental compliance program at APEL Extrusions, Inc. in Phoenix, AZ. This position supports Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) activities focused on reducing risk, preventing incidents, and ensuring compliance with applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations and internal standards. The Environmental Engineer will be responsible for maintaining compliance with environmental permits, including air, hazardous waste, stormwater, and wastewater permits. The position will maintain environmental data, process information, and compliance records associated with the facility's anodizing and painting operations. This position reports directly to the EHS and Security Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain all environmental permits, including Air, SWPPP, Hazardous Waste, and Wastewater permits.
• Monitor facility compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
• Maintain required environmental records, documentation, and compliance reporting.
• Perform environmental compliance sampling and coordinate laboratory testing and analysis.
• Monitor wastewater treatment systems to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Manage the facility's waste management and recycling programs.Conduct environmental regulatory compliance audits and inspections.
• Prepare and present monthly environmental compliance reports to plant leadership.
• Develop and maintain the Environmental Compliance Matrix and Calendar.
• Support environmental incident investigations, corrective actions, and regulatory reporting.
• Develop and deliver required environmental compliance training.
• Identify and implement projects that improve compliance, reduce environmental impacts, increase efficiency, and reduce costs.

Qualifications & Competencies

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, EHS, Chemical Engineering, Occupational Health, or a related technical field preferred.
• A minimum of five (5) years of environmental compliance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Experience managing environmental permits, compliance reporting, and regulatory inspections.
• Experience with Air Permitting and Air Quality Compliance.
• Experience with Wastewater Pretreatment Programs.
• Experience with Hazardous Waste Management (RCRA).
• Experience with Stormwater Compliance (SWPPP).
• Experience with EPCRA/SARA reporting preferred.
• Experience interacting with regulatory agencies, consultants, and vendors.
• Ability to interpret environmental regulations and apply compliance requirements in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, data analysis tools, and environmental recordkeeping systems.
