Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in Patchogue, NY seeks an Environmental Service Worker I (Per Diem) for variable days from 7:00am to 3:00pm. The role serves diverse patient populations, performing cleaning tasks and following the hospital’s 7-step cleaning procedure to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.

Responsibilities include equipment prep, patient/visitor interaction using AIDET, and ensuring supplies and carts are organized.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent to follow written work assignments.
• Approximately 1–3 months experience to learn cleaning procedures and equipment.
• Continued education through seminars, workshops and inservices.
• Good interpersonal skills demonstrated with staff, patients and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Report to Supervisor for assignment.
• Obtain cleaning equipment and ensure all items are in place.
• Introduce self to patients/visitors/employees and explain assignment.
• Complete the 7 Step Cleaning procedure.
• Clean vacated patient areas including bed sanitizing and linen care.
• Visually inspect area after cleaning for quality and neatness.
• Stock supplies and chemicals to complete assignments.
• Keep cart neat and ensure it does not block fire doors.
• Follow manufacturer guidelines when using chemicals and secure them when leaving area.
• Report unsafe equipment or products to supervisor.
• Use AIDET in every patient/visitor/staff encounter.
• Promote hospital service standards and a positive patient experience.
• Demonstrate competencies related to the 7 step cleaning procedure.
