Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection seeks a Chemist 2 to analyze environmental samples, maintain laboratory instruments, and support method development for PFAS and other contaminants. You will ensure data are accurate, defensible, and produced to regulatory standards to guide public decisions.

The position is full-time in Harrisburg with a 7:30 AM–3:30 PM schedule, occasional telework after probation, and a starting salary of $60,538 per year.

Qualifications

• One year as Chemist 1 or equivalent experience, or a bachelor’s degree with 30 chemistry/biochemistry credits, or a graduate degree in chemistry.
• Educational requirements met within 3 months of graduation.

Responsibilities

• Sample Processing: Organize samples, log information, and maintain documentation for chain of custody.
• Instrument Operation: Operate chromatography and LCMS/MS systems and evaluate raw data.
• Quality Control: Review analytical results, assess data trends, and apply corrective actions.
• Method Development: Develop and refine testing methods for PFAS and other environmental contaminants.
• Maintenance Duties: Perform routine preventive maintenance and troubleshoot instruments.
• Safety Compliance: Follow lab safety protocols and maintain records of safety checks.
