Job summary

HGL is seeking a Chemist I to work in Reston, VA. The role focuses on environmental analytical chemistry with hands-on involvement in sampling, data management, and QA/QC activities.

The successful candidate will support UFP-QAPP preparation, coordinate with laboratories and field teams, and ensure data integrity across projects. Strong MS Office skills and ability to meet deadlines are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, environmental chemistry, or related scientific discipline.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills; detail-oriented; able to work on multiple projects under deadlines.
• Ability to assist with bottle orders and lab sample receipt tracking.
• Ability to follow directions from various project managers and data teams.
• Ability to complete a background check for access to Government data systems.

Responsibilities

• Support preparation of UFP-QAPPs, data validation narratives, and data usability reports.
• Coordinate environmental laboratory services and field sampling events with project teams.
• Manage and report environmental analytical data with project teams and data managers.
• Review and evaluate laboratory and field data for completeness and correctness.
• Review, correct, and upload electronic data deliverables.
• Collaborate with data managers and professionals to implement corrective actions.
• Review data for conformance with QA requirements and support QA activities.
• Help develop requirements for new environmental data reporting tools and processes.
