Job summary

JRAD in Washington DC is seeking an Analytical Chemist to analyze environmental and air samples for chemical contamination. The role involves operating and maintaining gas chromatography and mass spectrometry instruments, using LIMS to manage data, and supporting QA/QC records and safety policies.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree in chemistry or biochemistry, 3+ years of quantitative analysis experience, and proficiency with ISO 17025 QA/QC standards and Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or similar from an accredited college/university
• 3+ years of experience with quantitative analysis of chemical compounds
• 2+ years of experience with screening environmental samples for TICs
• Demonstrated analytical lab skills via proficiency/accuracy performance tests
• Experience with ISO 17025 or similar QA/QC standards and lab instrumentation
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, Word, Access, PowerPoint)
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Journeyman to senior level chemist roles available
• Equivalent: 10 years' experience with a Bachelor's, or 6 years with a Master's degree

Responsibilities

• Analyze environmental/air samples for chemical contamination
• Operate and maintain chromatographs and mass spectrometers
• Use LIMS to manage analytical data
• Participate in QA/QC records, performance charts, and detection limits
• Maintain operator manuals and train new staff on equipment and LIMS
• Adhere to QA/QC procedures and safety policies
• Support audits of quality control systems and safety practices
• Maintain inventory of lab supplies
