Job summary

The Environmental and Land Use Hearings Office (ELUHO) in Washington State seeks an Administrative Appeals Judge to preside over PCHB and SHB hearings. You will conduct prehearing conferences, issue procedural decisions, and draft formal orders with impartiality and integrity.

You will also engage in legal research, mediations, and coordination with staff while supporting ELUHO’s mission and public service ethos. Travel for meetings is required; remote work is offered as needed.

Qualifications

• Admitted to the practice of law in Washington and in good standing.
• Demonstrated knowledge of environmental law through research, writing or practice.
• Valid driver's license and eligible to travel for hearings.

Responsibilities

• Preside over prehearing conferences and hearings to ensure fairness.
• Issue legally sound procedural decisions as presiding officer.
• Conduct legal research and draft high-quality decisions for boards.
• Mediate with PCHB and SHB parties to achieve mutual resolutions.
• Support ELUHO administration with meetings, records requests and case management.
