Job summary

Health Care Authority (HCA) in Washington State seeks a Chief Review Judge (WMS3/DLS) to lead statewide administrative hearings and appeals, ensuring due process and legal accuracy. The role requires a WA bar-qualified attorney with strong supervisory experience and a track record in administrative law.

The Chief Review Judge reports to the Chief Legal Officer, manages interagency agreements with OAH, and provides statewide training and guidance on hearings and appeals.

Qualifications

• Law degree from an accredited law school and licensed by the Washington State Bar Association in good standing.
• Five (5) years of experience with administrative hearings under the Administrative Procedures Act or equivalent public sector experience.
• Extensive experience supervising professional staff and strong leadership with accountability.

Responsibilities

• Plans, leads, and develops adjudicative proceedings in compliance with state and federal laws.
• Oversees scheduling and operations of statewide hearings; collaborates with internal and external stakeholders.
• Supervises and mentors staff, including the Legal Administrative Manager and Legal Assistant 3.
• Presides over hearings under applicable rules and ensures timely, accurate, and legally sound decisions.
