Arriving at Chandon Estate, in Mendoza, sixty years on from its founding, your eyes are still drawn to the mountain view. But if Chandon’s pioneers were to arrive here today, they might not recognize the place.
Robert-Jean de Vogüé search for the best terroirs turned into an epic journey. Eventually, his heroic 2CV brought him and Renaud Poirier, Chandon Argentina first Chief winemaker, to a place near Mendoza: the high, pure land they had dreamed of. Its unique situation and dramatic climate, with its wild seasonal and daily temperature variations, thrilled them.
