Education & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in safety, occupational health, or environmental engineering within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience in a cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practice) setting preferred.
- Hands-on experience with OSHA’s Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) and other workplace safety programs.
- In-depth knowledge of EHS regulations, including OSHA, EPA, DOT, FDA, and applicable state and federal laws.
- Experience with hazard assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations.
Position Summary:
The EHS Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the site's environmental, health, safety, and security programs. This role ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and fosters a culture of workplace safety and environmental responsibility. The EHS Manager collaborates with leadership and operations teams to drive continuous improvement, minimize risk, and ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Environmental, Health & Safety Compliance & Management:
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, FDA, and other applicable state and federal regulations.
- Develop and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and training programs to meet regulatory requirements.
- Administer EHS vendor contracts, budget, expenses, and inventory for safety programs and equipment.
- Monitor regulatory changes and provide updates to leadership on business impact and compliance strategies.
- Oversee hazardous materials management, including chemical safety, waste disposal, and environmental reporting.
- Conduct routine audits, inspections, and risk assessments to ensure adherence to safety standards.
- Manage internal reporting, record-keeping, and documentation for all EHS incidents, near-misses, and corrective actions.
Workplace Safety & Injury Prevention:
- Foster and promote a “World-Class” injury-free safety culture in collaboration with Leadership and Operations.
- Lead and guide the Safety Committee, ensuring active participation and execution of safety initiatives.
- Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs), ergonomics evaluations, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate workplace hazards.
- Analyze and trend safety observation data, conducting floor observations to proactively identify areas for improvement.
- Present findings and recommendations to leadership, operations, and staff, and oversee the implementation of safety improvement initiatives.
- Develop, implement, and enhance systems to track worker injuries and ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented.
- Investigate accidents, near-misses, and workplace injuries, conducting root cause analyses and recommending corrective actions.
Training & Employee Engagement:
- Conduct EHS training programs for employees, supervisors, and leadership on workplace safety protocols.
- Facilitate safety orientations for new employees and Safety Committee members.
- Provide guidance on proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety gear.
- Deliver safety awareness programs and promote employee participation in safety initiatives.
Leadership & Team Development:
- Manage, coach, and mentor staff in behavior-based safety programs and compliance initiatives.
- Work cross-functionally with HR and Operations to address safety concerns and implement workplace improvements.
- Act as the primary point of contact for all EHS-related matters at the facility.
- Ensure continuous improvement in EHS practices by benchmarking against industry best practices and applying new strategies.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and FDA regulations.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to drive a proactive safety culture.
- Ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and root cause analyses.
- Experience in developing and delivering safety training programs to a diverse workforce.
- Strong analytical skills for tracking and improving safety performance metrics.
- Hands-on approach with the ability to work closely with frontline employees and leadership teams.
