Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to join our team at our Lake Crystal, MN location. The EHS Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing our EHS programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a safe and healthy work environment. This role involves conducting risk assessments, training employees, and leading initiatives to minimize workplace hazards and environmental impact.

Job Summary:

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining policies and programs that ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations. This role focuses on minimizing workplace hazards, promoting a culture of safety through behavioral change, and ensuring regulatory compliance in areas such as OSHA, EPA, and Minnesota-specific environmental and labor regulations. The EHS Manager works closely with operations, maintenance, and leadership teams to develop safety training, conduct risk assessments, and drive continuous improvement in workplace safety and environmental sustainability.

Essential Functions:

1. Be the champion of the company’s behavioral-based safety (BBS) program.
2. Partner with leadership to develop and achieve annual safety and health goals.
3. Research, plan and promote safety & health awareness through specific training programs.
4. Responsible for safety orientation, monthly safety training, and weekly/daily safety training.
5. Maintain effective and prompt communication concerning safety suggestions, safety concerns, and corrective actions.
6. Understanding and applying Federal and State occupational safety and health regulations ensure compliance and implement regulatory changes as they occur.
7. Understand Federal and State environmental protection regulations ensure compliance and implement regulatory changes as they occur.
8. Ensure adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, and other conditions that may affect employee health, comfort, or efficiency by using Industrial hygiene testing and practices.
9. Collect samples of air/gases, soils, water, and industrial wastewater to conduct tests on pollutant levels.
10. Assist TBEI Corporate in safety policies across all business units.
11. Monitor & report all hazardous material generated & transported from the facility monthly.
12. Responsible for all environmental-related record-keeping and administration. This would include compliance with all permits, operating conditions, and regulatory standards.
13. Identify, evaluate, and correct hazardous conditions through audit systems throughout the workplace.
14. Conduct annual performance evaluation for the safety program to ensure compliance.
15. Review injury, illness, and near-miss/hazardous conditions reports and corrective actions with communications.
16. Responsible for record-keeping and the monthly safety calendar.
17. Conduct an annual audit of previous fiscal year injuries, illnesses, and near-misses comparing year-over-year performance.
18. Manage and provide quarterly training for the business unit’s first responder team.
19. Coordinate the purchase, training, maintenance, and inspection of necessary safety and personal protective equipment with departments.
20. Recommend engineering controls to minimize safety hazards.
21. Direct activities and own the safety committee.
22. Develop, implement, and test emergency response plans, including fire prevention, spill containment, and evacuation procedures.
23. Maintain Material Safety Data Sheet documentation of chemicals used through the Federal Signal web-based program.
24. Manage and monitor the safety budget and promote recommendations for cost containment.
25. Administer the business unit's 5S program with tracking and audits.
26. Active participant in daily Gemba walks and ensuring daily safety KPIs are maintained.

Job Qualifications:

1. Must have 4 to 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. A degree in safety engineering, Industrial Hygiene or Environmental Sciences, or in a related field is preferred.
3. A Certified Safety Professional certificate is a plus.
4. First Aid/CPR AED trained with a preference as an Emergency Medical Responder.
5. Knowledge of Minnesota workplace safety and environmental laws.
6. Ability to effectively deal with other people.
7. Strong PC skills in Microsoft Office.
8. Be able to travel periodically for training or other TBEI business unit visits.
9. Enthusiasm for challenges and new initiatives.
10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
11. Participate in related continuous education.

Additional Job Information:

1. Wage Expectations: $80,000 – $105,000 per year.
2. Pay: This is an exempt, salaried position and employees are paid on a bi-weekly basis.
3. Typical Schedule: Five (5) Eight (8) hour days M-F.
4. Location: On Site – 52182 Ember Road, Lake Crystal MN 56055.
5. Travel: Very minimal to none.
