Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience: 6+ years in EHS within chemical manufacturing, petrochemical, or heavy industrial processing.
  • PSM Expertise: Direct hands-on experience with OSHA PSM elements in a covered plant is required.
  • Leadership: Minimum 2+ years of direct supervisory experience managing EHS professionals.
  • Certifications: CSP, CHMM, or ASP preferred.
  • Knowledge: Strong chemical process safety, reaction hazard evaluation, and relief system basics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of 4–5 EHS professionals, setting goals and evaluating performance.
  • Oversee safety inspections, environmental reporting, industrial hygiene monitoring, and training programs.
  • Foster a plant-wide safety culture with continuous improvement and risk reduction.
  • Direct OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119) and EPA RMP programs across all covered processes.
  • Lead PHAs, HAZOPs, and PSSRs; manage MOC processes for safety during changes.
  • Conduct RCA investigations for PSM-related events and near-misses.
  • Serve as primary contact for OSHA, EPA, and state/local environmental agencies.
  • Oversee permits (Title V, NPDES), hazardous waste management, EAPs, and LEPC coordination.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced EHS Manager to lead environmental compliance, occupational health, safety initiatives, and Process Safety Management (PSM) at our chemical manufacturing facility. This role directly manages a dedicated EHS team of 4–5 specialists and engineers. You will be responsible for maintaining full compliance with OSHA, EPA, and state regulations, with a heavy emphasis on managing PSM/RMP-covered processes to ensure safe, continuous operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage, mentor, and direct a team of 4–5 EHS personnel, setting performance goals and conducting regular performance evaluations.
  • Oversee team workload distribution for safety inspections, environmental reporting, industrial hygiene monitoring, and training programs.
  • Foster a plant-wide safety culture built on continuous improvement, active hazard identification, and risk reduction.
Process Safety Management (PSM) & RMP
  • Direct and maintain the plant’s OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119) and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) programs across all covered processes.
  • Facilitate or lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), Hazard and Operability studies (HAZOPs), and pre-startup safety reviews (PSSRs).
  • Manage the Management of Change (MOC) process to ensure operational changes undergo thorough safety evaluations before implementation.
  • Lead incident investigations using root-cause analysis (RCA) techniques for any PSM-related events or near-misses.
Regulatory Compliance & Environmental Oversight
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, state/local environmental protection agencies).
  • Oversee site environmental permits, including Title V air permits, NPDES/Wastewater discharge, and hazardous waste management (RCRA).
  • Maintain emergency action plans (EAPs) and coordinate response efforts with local emergency response authorities (LEPC/fire department).
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience: 6+ years of EHS experience in chemical manufacturing, petrochemical, or heavy industrial processing operations.
  • PSM Expertise: Direct hands-on experience managing OSHA PSM elements in a covered process plant environment is required.
  • Leadership: Minimum 2+ years of direct supervisory experience managing EHS professionals.
  • Certifications (Preferred): Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or Associate Safety Professional (ASP).
  • Strong knowledge of chemical process safety, reaction hazard evaluation, and relief system design basics.
  • Proficient in leading RCA methodologies (5 Whys, Fishbone, TapRooT).
  • Strong communication and cross-functional leadership skills to drive safety alignment between Operations, Maintenance, and Management.
