Job summary

Slate, a manufacturer of safe, reliable vehicles, seeks a Weld Teardown Technician to support Manufacturing Quality. You will perform weld inspections, NDT, destructive testing, measurements, and teardown activities to verify welds meet engineering specs and quality requirements.

The role offers training in destructive and non-destructive inspection methods, preparing samples, documenting results, and communicating findings to engineering and quality teams.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn inspection and NDT.
• Ability to read and interpret technical instructions and drawings.
• Basic computer skills (MS Word/Excel).

Responsibilities

• Perform weld teardown and inspection on automotive body and chassis components.
• Conduct non-destructive testing (NDT) including ultrasonic testing (UT) and chisel testing.
• Perform visual and dimensional inspections of welded assemblies and components.
• Inspect various weld types: spot, projection, MIG/MAG, laser, seam, and adhesively bonded joints.
• Conduct destructive testing such as weld peel and chisel testing.
• Measure weld nugget size, locations, spacing, and fusion.
• Prepare samples for visual, dimensional, and metallurgical evaluation.
• Document inspection results and identify indications needing evaluation.
• Record data and maintain traceability of samples and results.
