Job summary

The Weld Teardown Technician at Slate will support Manufacturing Quality by performing weld inspections, NDT, destructive testing, measurements, and teardown activities to evaluate automotive body and chassis structures.

The entry-level role includes training in destructive and non-destructive inspection methods, preparing samples, collecting measurements, and communicating findings to engineering and quality teams. A strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in automotive manufacturing or related technical environment preferred.
• Ability to learn inspection, welding, and NDT processes.
• Basic reading of technical instructions, drawings, and inspection procedures.
• Basic computer skills including Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Perform weld teardown and inspection activities on automotive body and chassis components.
• Perform non-destructive testing (NDT) of welds and components using approved methods (UT, chisel testing).
• Perform visual and dimensional inspections of welded assemblies and components.
• Inspect various weld types: resistance spot, projection, MIG/MAG, laser, seam, and adhesive-bonded joints.
• Perform destructive testing, including weld peel and chisel testing.
• Record and document ultrasonic inspection results and identify indications requiring evaluation.
