Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design in Charlotte, NC is seeking an Entry-Level Waterway Structures Engineer to join our Water team. You will assist in designing water-related structures such as locks, dams, and hydropower facilities, working alongside senior engineers on major infrastructure projects.

The role provides exposure to multiple disciplines, QA/QC, field surveys, and the development of drawings, with growth opportunities and a collaborative, detail‑oriented work environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
• EIT candidates preferred.
• Interest in water-related structural projects; prior experience preferred but not required.
• CAD (AutoCAD, MicroStation) skills are a plus.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Attention to detail.
• Desire to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering calculations and create construction cost estimates.
• Work with senior engineers to design water-related structures (locks, dams, hydro plants, gates).
• Perform QA/QC by verifying design methodology, calculations, outcomes, etc.
• Interpret drawings from multiple disciplines and respond to RFI.
• Conduct field inspections and surveys in support of design and construction.
• Research and apply code provisions to design.
• Research design alternatives and document findings for project engineer/manager.
• Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures, using own judgment.
• Assist senior staff in the creation of proposals, client information, and designs.
• Develop drawings while applying changes and corrections as needed.
