Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design in Charlotte, NC is seeking an Entry-Level Waterway Structures Engineer to join our Water team. You will assist in designing water-related structures such as locks, dams, and hydropower facilities, working alongside senior engineers on major infrastructure projects.

The role provides exposure to multiple disciplines, QA/QC, field surveys, and the development of drawings, with growth opportunities and a collaborative, detail‑oriented work environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
• EIT candidates preferred.
• Interest in water-related structural projects; prior experience preferred but not required.
• CAD (AutoCAD, MicroStation) skills are a plus.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Attention to detail.
• Desire to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering calculations and create construction cost estimates.
• Work with senior engineers to design water-related structures (locks, dams, hydro plants, gates).
• Perform QA/QC by verifying design methodology, calculations, outcomes, etc.
• Interpret drawings from multiple disciplines and respond to RFI.
• Conduct field inspections and surveys in support of design and construction.
• Research and apply code provisions to design.
• Research design alternatives and document findings for project engineer/manager.
• Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures, using own judgment.
• Assist senior staff in the creation of proposals, client information, and designs.
• Develop drawings while applying changes and corrections as needed.

Colliers Engineering & Design is currently seeking an Entry-Level Waterway Structures Engineer to join our Water team in Charlotte, NC!

Our Water Discipline is growing, and we have exciting projects to engage motivated engineers who enjoy working on a variety of large infrastructure projects that include steel and reinforced concrete design. Our structural engineers often work closely with other Geotech, Hydraulics, Environmental, and Dam Safety engineers, providing great exposure to all aspects of a project. Our projects are unique designs and provide a diverse array of interesting work to keep our staff challenged and engaged.
