Job summary

The City of Port Arthur Texas seeks an entry-level Treatment Plant Operator to support operations at our water purification or wastewater treatment facilities. You will monitor gauges, read meters, perform routine maintenance, collect samples, and help ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Experience in water/wastewater environments is not required at entry level; training is provided. This is a full-time, non-exempt position offering hourly wages DOE.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of water purification or wastewater systems.
• Understanding of biology, chemistry and math related to treatment.
• Basic mechanical and electrical concepts.
• Safe work practices and safety regulations.
• Operation and maintenance of plant machinery.

Responsibilities

• Operate treatment facilities to control flow and processing of wastewater and effluent.
• Monitor plant functions via gauges, meters, graphs and chemical tests.
• Perform routine maintenance on valves, pumps and related equipment.
• Collect water and wastewater samples and record test results.
• Maintain logs and prepare hourly, daily and monthly reports.
• May perform minor preventative maintenance and emergency repairs.
