Job summary

City of Grand Island is seeking an entry-level Water Maintenance Worker to assist in maintaining, constructing, and repairing the water utility system. Duties include setting metering devices, locating lines, and installing water services under direction from senior staff.

The role includes operating various construction equipment, responding to water emergencies, and participating in standby rotations. A high school diploma and a valid driver’s license are required, with future CDL and Water

Qualifications

• No experience required, but prior plumbing or utility construction experience is preferred.
• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid Class A commercial driver’s license within twelve months of hire.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid Grade IV Water Operators License within twelve months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform semi-skilled and assist in skilled tasks in the maintenance, construction and repair of water utility systems.
• Construct water lines and related installations according to proper grade and alignment.
• Install and maintain fire service lines, hydrants, mains and valves.
