Job summary

American Water is seeking a Water Infrastructure Planning Associate Engineer to support long‑term planning for water and sewer systems. The role assists in hydraulic modeling, demand projections, asset condition assessments, and treatment strategies to ensure reliable service for customers.

The entry‑level position provides exposure to project delivery, coordination with teams, and opportunities to learn from experienced engineers while contributing to meaningful infrastructure solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
• 0 - 2 years’ experience in engineering design, planning, construction, project delivery and/or project management.
• Water system and wastewater hydraulic modeling experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist preparation of strategic water and wastewater system engineering planning studies.
• Conduct system capacity evaluations and analysis of water source, treatment, pumping, and distribution deficiencies.
• Assist in hydraulic model development, calibration and analysis for water distribution and wastewater systems.
• Assist with multiple small to medium projects and varied engineering assignments.
• Develop technical information into feasible engineering approaches.
• Support consulting engineers, technicians, and CAD operators as needed.
