Job summary

The City of Minneapolis is seeking an entry-level Trainee to support the Water Distribution System under supervision. You will perform manual and semi-skilled work while gaining on-the-job experience and pursuing the Class D Water Certification.

As you progress, you will be promoted to Water Distribution Operator after certification and gain exposure to GIS tools and field technology. This role may involve shift work and on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Mechanical aptitude required to perform under supervision.
• Ability to read Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and follow safety practices.
• Good interpersonal communication with residents and team members.
• Proficiency with mobile computers for work orders and data entry.
• Willingness and ability to perform manual labor in all weather conditions.
• Ability to climb ladders and operate basic field equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Learn about City water distribution system operations and maintenance.
• Learn to use water distribution technology tools (ARC GIS, Enquesta, Star Programmer, Sono Phone).
• Assist with locating and marking buried water infrastructure as required.
• Perform basic tasks under supervision and support leak investigations and repair tasks.
• Assist with operation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of system components under guidance.
• Pursue Water Supply System Operator D certification with the State of Minnesota.
• Maintain safety practices and work in various weather conditions.
