Job summary

City of La Marque is offering an entry-level Utilities Operator Trainee role focused on learning the operation and maintenance of the city’s water distribution and wastewater systems. The position provides on-the-job training under licensed operators and prepares candidates for TCEQ certification.

You will assist with daily operations, monitor pumps and treatment processes, collect samples, and support data reporting.

Job description

The Utilities Operator Trainee is an entry-level position responsible for assisting with the operation and maintenance of the City’s water distribution system, wastewater treatment facilities, and related utility infrastructure. This position provides on-the-job training under licensed operators and prepares the employee for TCEQ certification and advancement.

Operations & Training

• Assist with daily water and wastewater system operations
• Learn to monitor pumps, blowers, valves, and treatment processes
• Assist with water and wastewater sampling and testing
• Record operational data and support reporting requirements

Maintenance & Field Work

• Assist with inspections and basic maintenance of equipment
• Support cleaning of facilities, tanks, and work areas
• Assist with flushing, leak response, and service issues
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas

Compliance & Learning

• Attend required training and pursue TCEQ certification
• Follow safety procedures and standard operating procedures
• Learn regulatory requirements for water and wastewater systems

Emergency & On-Call Duties

• Respond to alarms, system failures, and emergency events
• Participate in after-hours call-outs as training progresses
• Assist during severe weather and emergency operations

Other Duties

• Perform other related duties as assigned
