State of Tennessee is seeking an entry-level Unemployment Accounts Auditor in Humboldt, TN. You will work under supervision in the Employer Accounts Unit to audit employer payroll records and collect unemployment premiums as required by law.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree with 18 accounting hours or equivalent experience and a valid driver’s license. It offers a path to advancement within the Labor and Workforce Development Department.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree with 18 accounting hours or equivalent substituted experience.
• Substitution: Qualifying professional experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis up to four years.
• Necessary Qualifications: Must have a valid driver's license and personal vehicle insurance.

Responsibilities

• Gathers evidence from employer records and documents via interviews to build cases.
• Learns to prepare routine to complex audit records and reports using internal programs.
• Conducts audits to determine unemployment tax liability and compliance with state laws.
• Investigates wage protests to classify workers as employees or contractors.
• Collects delinquent wage and premium reports to bring employers into compliance.
• Performs non-filer investigations and ensures tax compliance with state regulations.
• Prepares documented evidence for hearings and prosecutions at administrative and state/federal courts.
• Explains and enforces departmental policies and applicable laws.
