AMT is seeking an Entry Level Transportation Engineer for our Richmond, VA office, joining a growing team upon graduation in May 2027. The role offers a hybrid schedule and opportunities to work on cross-office projects. The candidate will develop in road design and transportation planning while supporting senior staff.

Ideal candidates have a BS in Civil Engineering and may pursue EIT. Prior internships and familiarity with AutoCAD/Civil3D or Bentley software are a plus.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering from ABET accredited program.
• Internship or work experience preferred, municipal or state DOT projects a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of projects including data collection and analysis.
• Develop horizontal and vertical alignments, cross sections, and drainage/roadway design.
• Prepare erosion control and site plans and assist with roadway/stormwater plans.

Job description

AMT is growing and is seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Transportation Engineer to join our growing Transportation team of design professionals in our Richmond, VA office upon graduation in May 2027.

In addition to supporting projects in their assigned office, the candidate may be involved with other AMT offices and project opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Support a variety of projects which may involve collection of data, existing condition and alternative analysis evaluation for engineering reports
• Development of horizontal and vertical alignments, performing cross section and super-elevation design, roadside barrier design, ADA curb ramp design, roadway modeling, grading plans, development of site plans, and providing design support for erosion and sediment control plans
• Stormwater management plans, right-of-way plans, utility relocation plans, permit application drawings, and traffic related plans.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
• Engineering-in-Training Certification (or ability to obtain in 6-12 months) preferred
• Prior internship or work experience preferred, experience with Municipal or State/US Department of Transportation projects a plus
• Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD/Civil3D and/or Bentley Microstation/InRoads or Open Roads is preferred
• Knowledge of civil engineering design and construction surveying concepts preferred
• Experience with MS Office products including Word and Excel
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, project managers, supervisors, and other team members
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
