AMT is seeking an Entry Level Transportation Engineer to join our Richmond, VA team upon graduation in May 2027. This position offers a competitive salary, benefits, and potential advancement within a growing transportation group.

We support a hybrid work schedule (office + remote) and expect candidates to pursue an Engineering-in-Training certification with internship or prior DOT/Municipal project exposure considered a plus.

Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• EIT certification preferred or obtainable within 6–12 months.
• Prior internship or work on Municipal or State/DOT projects is a plus.
• Experience with AutoCAD/Civil3D and Bentley tools is preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Support projects involving data collection, existing conditions, and analysis for reports.
• Develop horizontal/vertical alignments, cross sections, super-elevation, and roadway modeling; provide site/grading plans.
• Prepare stormwater, ROW, utility relocation, permit drawings, and traffic-related plans.

Job description

AMT is growing and is seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Transportation Engineer to join our growing Transportation team of design professionals in our Richmond, VA office upon graduation in May 2027.

In addition to supporting projects in their assigned office, the candidate may be involved with other AMT offices and project opportunities.

We provide an Excellent Work / Life Balance and an opportunity to work a Hybrid (Combination of Office and Remote) schedule.

• Support a variety of projects which may involve collection of data, existing condition and alternative analysis evaluation for engineering reports
• Development of horizontal and vertical alignments, performing cross section and super-elevation design, roadside barrier design, ADA curb ramp design, roadway modeling, grading plans, development of site plans, and providing design support for erosion and sediment control plans
• Stormwater management plans, right-of-way plans, utility relocation plans, permit application drawings, and traffic related plans.
• BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
• Engineering-in-Training Certification (or ability to obtain in 6-12 months) preferred
• Prior internship or work experience preferred, experience with Municipal or State/US Department of Transportation projects a plus
• Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD/Civil3D and/or Bentley Microstation/InRoads or Open Roads is preferred
• Knowledge of civil engineering design and construction surveying concepts preferred
• Experience with MS Office products including Word and Excel
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, project managers, supervisors, and other team members
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
