The position requires a High school diploma or GED, 1 year of relevant truck/equipment experience, knowledge of Class B CDL rules with airbrake endorsement, and the ability to work weekends or after hours.

Qualifications

• Requires a High school diploma or GED.
• Requires one year of experience in the operation of medium-sized trucks or equipment.
• Requires knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, and rules for operating a class B commercial vehicle; including reading route maps and street signs.
• Requires orientation of up to three weeks with training and supervision until proficiency.
• Weekend, holiday and afterhours work may be required.
• Requires the ability to work under stress and meet tight deadlines.
• Requires ability to follow specific oral and written instructions.
• Requires a valid State of Florida Class B CDL with airbrake endorsement and satisfactory driving record.

Responsibilities

• Operates solid waste collection equipment to follow designated collection route.
• Communicates with supervisors to inform them of progress on work assignments.
• Learn job-related procedures and techniques through instruction and training.
• Respond to customer inquiries and perform duties such as assessing concerns or complaints, problem solving and follow-up.
• Collects solid waste such as refuse, recyclable materials, yard waste, and other materials.
• Uses a two-way radio to communicate with supervisor and receive instructions.
• Transports solid waste materials to designated disposal location.
• Monitors equipment and performs basic maintenance or service and reports issues.
• Performs inspections of vehicles and keeps equipment clean.
• Reports unsafe conditions, accidents, or injuries to supervisor.
• Inform supervisor of problems or emergencies and unsafe conditions at collection sites.
• Ability to work with co-workers and public, resolve complaints with good judgment.
• Complete paperwork and reports related to collection services.
• Attend meetings and training to gain or improve skills.
• Provide support during special events involving sanitation containers.
