The Opportunity:

Junior structural engineer role is an excellent opportunity for engineers seeking experience in designing ship structures and learning about materials and construction methods used in shipbuilding. The role involves working with a team of naval architects, structural engineers, and designers to provide structural designs and solutions for US Navy and USCG ships. There is potential to support CACI's Washington, DC office, including client site offices at the Washington Navy Yard or NSWC-Carderock, with future flexible, hybrid work options. The role involves collaboration with customers such as MSC, NSWC, and NAVSEA.

Responsibilities:

  1. Use AutoCAD to develop structural drawings for equipment foundations and ship structures.
  2. Learn customer requirements for structural drawing development.
  3. Collaborate with structural engineers and other discipline engineers to develop drawings.
  4. Attend ship checks to gather information for drawings.
  5. Apply structural formulas to verify the strength of designs.
  6. Learn to model and analyze ship structures using finite element software (Femap).
  7. Familiarize with marine rules and standards for design and analysis.
  8. Document methods, assumptions, and results in reports.
  9. Review shipyard and design contract deliverables for compliance.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience drafting to-scale layout drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Detail-oriented with good analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
  • U.S. Citizenship and security clearance eligibility.

Desired:

  • Experience or internship in the marine or defense industry, e.g., US Navy or USCG.
  • Knowledge of marine rules, standards, and codes.
  • Proficiency with 3-D CAD software such as SolidWorks.
  • Experience with ship calculations or structural design/calculations.

Pay Range: The salary depends on various factors including location, experience, skills, education, and certifications. The proposed salary range for this position is: $55,500 - $111,100
