Job summary

Applied Materials in Gloucester, MA seeks an entry-level Product Safety Engineer to support design, evaluation, and compliance of products; you will work with senior engineers on risk assessments (FMEA/FTA) and drive corrective actions to minimize safety risks.

The role emphasizes collaboration with design, systems, manufacturing, and quality teams, contributing to safety analyses and compliance with SEMI S10, NFPA, and other standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial, Safety, or a related engineering discipline.
• 0-2 years of experience; internship in product safety, compliance, or equipment engineering preferred.
• Foundational understanding of engineering risk assessment methods and the ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to document findings clearly for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and comfort working in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally to customer and manufacturing sites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Participates in cross-functional evaluations of new technologies and their potential interaction with other systems using structured risk assessment methods (FMEA, FTA, HazOp, SEMI S10).
• Assists in developing and implementing programs that minimize risk to employees, customers/facility, and the environment relating to Applied products.
• Supports product and system safety analysis on components, subsystems, and complete systems under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Participates in compliance evaluation of products against company, industrial guidelines, standards and governmental requirements.
• Supports design reviews from a product safety perspective, providing early input to design teams.
• Reviews engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications to identify potential safety hazards and non-conformances.
