Job summary

SmithGroup's Washington, DC office seeks an Entry Level Plumbing Engineer to perform analysis, design and documentation of plumbing systems. You will coordinate construction documents for permitting and bidding, and visit sites to observe and answer questions while representing the owner in punch lists.

An ideal candidate holds a B.S. in Mechanical/Architectural Eng and 1–3 years of Revit/plumbing design experience, with knowledge of codes and the ability to work in a team environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering or equivalent.
  • 1–3 years of experience with Revit and plumbing system design.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing codes and design standards.
  • Understanding of lab and medical gas system designs preferred.
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly and collaborate with others.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis, design and documentation of plumbing systems.
  • Produce and coordinate construction documents for permitting and bidding.
  • Coordinate specifications with drawings to meet project requirements.
  • Visit construction sites to observe, answer questions and assist punch lists.
  • Advance designs and assess design requirements.
  • Research and apply engineering drawing details as needed.
  • Manage aspects of plumbing projects with guidance from senior staff.
  • Coordinate and review the work of designers and interns.
  • Estimate level of effort and provide scheduling input.

The Washington, DC office of SmithGroupis looking for anEntry Level Plumbing Engineerto join our team.

Working with us, you will:

  • Perform analysis, design and documentation of plumbing systems.
  • Produce and coordinate construction documents for permitting and bidding of plumbing design and engineering projects.
  • Coordinate specifications with drawings to meet project requirements.
  • Visit construction sites as required for observation, answer contractor questions, and represent the owner in preparing punch lists.
  • Advance designs developed by others and assess design requirements.
  • Have knowledge of basic drawing details and the ability to research more complex details.
  • Manage aspects of plumbing projects with assistance of senior plumbing designer.
  • Coordinate and review the work of other designers and interns assigned to projects.
  • Determine a level of effort required for a given assignment and provide input on scheduling.

An ideal candidate has:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of experience with Revit and plumbing system design.
  • Working knowledge of plumbing codes and design standards.
  • An understanding of lab and medical gas system designs, preferred.
  • The ability to discern and apply proper engineering design approaches to systems in a variety of building types.
  • A working knowledge of architectural concepts and the ability to understand and communicate with professionals of other disciplines, team members, consultants and clients.
  • Proficiency in current design software (Revit), Microsoft Office, and PDF software (Bluebeam).
  • The ability to communicate ideas well both graphically and verbally.
  • The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule.
  • The ability to contribute to and participate in a team environment.
  • A commitment to continuing education.
