Job summary

The City of La Porte, Texas is seeking an entry-level Park Maintenance Worker I to perform semi-skilled gardening, grounds maintenance and custodial duties at city parks.

You will mow, trim, weed, water, and maintain athletic fields; operate mowers and edgers; clean facilities; and assist with plantings and general grounds upkeep. No prior experience required; a Texas driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in grounds maintenance work.
• Ability to perform semi-skilled landscape maintenance work.
• Ability to operate a variety of mowers, edger, and other routine park maintenance equipment.
• Ability to learn to perform minor repairs on buildings, fences, and facilities.

Responsibilities

• Mow, trim, weed, and water parks, playgrounds, and medians.
• Operate power mowers, edger, and other equipment.
• Rake leaves, clean walks, fields, swimming pool and other facilities.
• Assist in maintaining athletic fields and other recreational facilities.
• Spade and prepare ground around plants and shrubs; plant and maintain trees, flowers and shrubs.
• Pick up rubbish and paper, and perform general grounds cleaning.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
