Job summary

Hatch Ltd. in Salt Lake City invites applications for a Junior Mining Engineer, reporting to the Metals group to support global offices from the Salt Lake City, UT location.

You will carry out mine design calculations, review contractor drawings, and assist with equipment sizing and vendor communications as part of a project team. The role requires a recent degree in engineering/mining and strong teamwork and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Roles at this level are filled by recent or soon to be university graduates with little or no professional experience but possessing relevant skills
• Preferred bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, mining, or a relevant field
• Minimum of a cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale

Responsibilities

• Carry out calculations, simulations and verifications related to mine design.
• Develop mine design for Clients utilizing design software to suit the Client’s needs
• Reviewing and commenting on Contractor drawings, reports, and documents
• Guide the Contractor in carrying out detailed engineering and purchasing activities in matters related to mining engineering
• Participate in equipment sizing and communication with Vendors to ensure that equipment selected meets requirements
• Work with a project team, including development of layouts, assistance with mechanical and electrical equipment selection, and development of operating philosophies
• Execute technical bid evaluations for equipment and making recommendations for purchase
• Interact with other mining engineers in the organization to ensure that technology is shared effectively
• Generate operating manuals, plant startups, and commissioning where required
