Hatch Ltd. invites a seasoned Project Engineer to join our Metals Project Development team in Salt Lake City. You will provide management, technical leadership and design expertise across FEL1–FEED study phases for mining and metals projects.

You bring 8+ years in delivering studies or projects, a BSc/BEng and Professional Engineer status, and strong communication and problem-solving skills to coordinate cross-functional teams and ensure safety and value throughout the study lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience delivering studies or projects in mining/metals.
  • Engineering degree with PE registration.
  • Strong problem-solving and high-level technical detail.
  • Knowledge of project management fundamentals including earned value management.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and organize at an advanced level.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety and Hatch values are embedded through opportunity identification, pursuit, and project development.
  • Develop project scopes, resource estimates, schedules and budgets.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams across engineering, controls, procurement, construction/commissioning planning and environmental disciplines.
  • Embed value optimization practices including design reviews and risk analyses.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, study teams and stakeholders.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities with commodity directors and leadership for proposals and presentations.

Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Project Engineer to join our Metals Project Development team, providing management, technical leadership and world-class design expertise to Hatch's metals business units.

As a Project Engineer, you will contribute to the development of pursuits and management of engagements for earlier project development phases, also known as FEL1, FEL2, FEL3, FEED, pre-feasibility or feasibility study phases.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Ensuring Hatch values, including our commitment to safety, are embedded throughout the opportunity identification, pursuit, project development and set up for delivery.
  • Developing project scopes, resource estimates, schedules, and budgets.
  • Working with the project manager to provide active management of progress through earned value, cost-performance, and schedule performance metrics to ensure studies remain on track and within cost and schedule targets.
  • Coordination of multidisciplinary teams across engineering, project controls, procurement, construction/commissioning planning, environmental disciplines and others as required for a particular study.
  • Embedding value optimization practices, including design reviews and risk analyses, to maximize project value.
  • Ensuring compliance with engineering standards, environmental objectives, quality requirements and safety protocols.
  • Fostering communication with clients, study teams and stakeholders.
  • Working with commodity directors and regional/global leadership to identify and pursue opportunities – developing proposals, estimates and presentations as needed.
You bring to the role:
  • Typically 8+ years of experience delivering studies or projects in the mining and metals industry. Experience in multiple sectors or commodities advantageous but not specifically required.
  • BSc/BEng degree in an engineering discipline and registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • Ability to handle complex problem-solving tasks, applying appropriate analysis and consideration of high-level technical detail.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and organize at an advanced level.
  • Knowledge of project management fundamentals, including earned value management.
  • Ability to adapt to constant change and accommodate high pressure situations to support the team in meeting project objectives.
  • Strong communication skills across all levels including client representatives.
  • Ability to manage relationships with key stakeholders involved in the project (including internal and external clients).
  • A high emotional quotient (EQ) that can be applied to motivate teams, increase team efficiency, and aid in conflict resolution.
  • Collaborate on exciting projects to develop innovative solutions
